Craggan Golf Course & Fishery - Newsletter

Dear member

Once again I would like to thank you all for your support over the past twelve months.

Throughout the year we have seen Craggan continue to develop and mature as a course, offering something quite distinct and different to golfers of all standards in the area. I hope you enjoyed your golf throughout the season and that the mild weather gave you plenty of opportunities to play the course and enjoy your Craggan season ticket to the full.

Congratulations as ever to competition winners and I hope you all find your game improving over the next year.

Our course is only as good as its green keeper. Dennis Smith has done an excellent job in maintaining Craggan to the high standards set by his predecessor Michael Brennan. Given some very challenging climactic conditions Dennis has kept Craggan looking pristine and playing extremely well.  My thanks must also go to Barry Wilding and all those who give their time and effort to help run the club, particularly the competitions and events which otherwise would be very hard to organise.

The clubhouse has now got a drinks license.  It will remain open throughout most of the winter serving food and drink.  As last year we will be selling golf equipment and outdoor clothing & equipment as well as Xmas trees.  Do pay us a visit to buy those much needed presents and enjoy the coffee house atmosphere.

Indeed every year we invest in the course to improve the layout and facilities in line with the wishes of the membership. This year the new kitchen extension was added to the clubhouse. We have continued this ongoing investment in the course over the years against a background of rising costs and the fact that our season tickets and course fees have remained unchanged for some time.

Unfortunately these plain economic facts now require an adjustment to be made if we are to continue to maintain and invest in the high standard of facilities and green keeping we all enjoy at Craggan.

However in line with our policy of encouraging young talent we have decided to hold the cost down of the under 16 season ticket at the present fee of £20 plus VAT, which I’m sure you will agree is outstanding value over a year. But we do need to increase the cost of the adult season ticket to a more economic level for the reasons explained above.

Whilst I have reluctantly decided to raise the fees, I have also sought to reduce the impact on members by staggering the necessary increase over a two-year period. As a result full membership for season 2007 will now cost £70 plus VAT and this will rise in season 2008 to £80 plus VAT. There will also be a slight increase in the price of a single round to £15 and a full day ticket to £20.

I hope you will agree this is a very moderate rise by any golf club standards and still represents outstanding value in any comparison with fees elsewhere, providing members with a season ticket, access to clubhouse facilities and two 50% discount guest tickets for well under £100 a year.

I believe a Craggan Golf Club membership for £70 plus Vat is still fantastic value nowadays and is also the perfect Christmas present for the golfers in your family, especially with Craggan’s generous 5% Christmas discount for those purchased before 31st December!

On the administration side I’ll be continuing with the identity tag system this year using photographic cards for members. Once again could you send me a small passport sized photograph with your season ticket application. Your membership card will be collectable at the clubhouse.

Should you prefer the card to be sent to you then please send me a stamped addressed envelope with your application form.

If you know of anyone wanting to apply for a season ticket, please pass on a copy of the detachable form below. There will be no joining fee, so prices will be as below.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me at the email address listed on this site.

Remember you can also keep in touch via the website www.cragganforlesiure.co.uk. I will be adding a comments page for you to submit your feedback and ideas. Please make use of this as it will help me make improvements to the course and facilities if I know what you are thinking.
